When I set out to build Ambitious Adulting 101, I knew I needed a name that did more than describe a service. It had to spark something immediately — a movement, a mindset, and most of all, an action.

I had read The E-Myth Revisited: Why Most Small Businesses Don’t Work and What to Do About It, and it inspired me to take the time to build a franchise, not just a job.

“Damigo Consulting” didn’t quite have the ring I wanted (besides, I’ve already spent a career helping people pronounce and spell my last name… ha!). This had to be bigger. More urgent. More alive.

The term Ambitious Adult traces back to insights I found in Napoleon Hill’s work. He observed a particular kind of person: the lifelong learner who refuses to settle, who sees adulthood not as a slow drift into complacency, but as a time to build, grow, and become the courageous leaders — and followers — our world needs.

An Ambitious Adult is someone who thinks accurately, seeks competitive advantages, and moves intentionally through all aspects of life. They’re the “not-so-silent bystanders” — the ones taking charge of their lives, pursuing their aims, and lifting others along the way.

Why the “-ing”?

The -ing in Adulting is the secret sauce that transforms the name from a cute title into a call to action.

It’s not a badge you earn — it’s a practice you live.

Becoming an Ambitious Adult isn’t a finish line. It’s a lifelong verb: negotiating challenges, taking responsibility, building relationships, speaking up, and learning from mistakes. It’s doing, not simply being.

Why “101”?

In education, 101 courses teach the fundamentals — the essential foundation you need to thrive in more complex environments later.

Ambitious Adulting 101 is about getting back to the basics: becoming lifelong learners, team players, trustworthy leaders, and contributors to communities that actually work and succeed.

What does it mean to be an Ambitious Adult?

In many ways, it means being one of the few who would “pass” the famous Stanley Milgram experiment — metaphorically speaking.

Milgram’s electric shock experiment revealed that many people will blindly obey orders, even against their conscience.

An Ambitious Adult resists blind obedience.

They have the courage to say “No” when needed — and the wisdom to pursue their aims ambitiously, even under pressure. They aren’t reckless rebels chasing grievances; they discern, they lead, they follow when appropriate, and they stand up when it truly matters.

They know that building a satisfying life takes deliberate practice — and that realization makes them smile.
